The batting of Bob Bailey and pitching of Mike Wegener combined to give the Expos a 6-2 victory in the opener of a twi-night doubleheader, but the Cubs came back to take the second game, 11-3. Bailey drove in five runs with a homer and single, while Wegener turned in his first complete game since last September 15.

In the nightcap, Larry Gura hurled the route for the Cubs and posted his first major league victory. Jim Hickman homered for the Cubs with two men on base in the first inning and Johnny Callison added a solo swat in the third to highlight a 15-hit attack in support of Gura. The rookie lefthander gave up seven hits, including homers by Rusty Staub and John Boccabella. [The Sporting News]
