Staked to a seven-run lead in the first inning, Frank Reberger fashioned the first complete game of his major league career and pitched the Giants to a 9-3 victory over the Reds. Ray Washburn, who started for the Reds, was able to retire only one batter. Willie McCovey and Frank Johnson each smashed a homer with two men on base. Two walks, an error and a sacrifice fly by Tito Fuentes, after John Noriega relieved, added the seventh run of the stanza. Tony Perez hit a homer for the Reds to mark his 100th RBI.
