. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Mickey Stanley, who hit a triple and double, scored twice and Mike Kilkenny doled out four singles as the Tigers won the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, 2-1. The hitting of Roy White and Bobby Murcer, who drove in five runs between them, enabled the Yankees to take the second game, 7-5. Stanley hit his triple in the third inning of the lidlifter and scored on a wild pitch by Mel Stottlemyre. After the Yankees tied the count on singles by Gene Michael and Thurman Munson, around a sacrifice, in their half of the third, Stanley doubled in the fifth, took third on a grounder by Al Kaline and crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Jim Northrup.

White homered with two men on base in the first inning of the nightcap and Murcer hit a two-run drive that bounced off Ike Brown's glove into the lower seats of the left field stands in the fifth. Dalton Jones had a homer for the Tigers. [The Sporting News]
