Turning in his best performance of the season, Nelson Briles pitched the Cardinals to a 3-0 victory over the Mets and broke Tom Seaver's personal nine-game winning streak. Lou Brock led off the game with a double for the Cardinals, advanced on an infield out and, after a pass to Joe Hague, stole home on the front end of a double theft.

Other runs counted in the fourth when Hague tripled and scored on a single by Dick Allen, who then stole second, advanced to third after a long fly by Jose Cardenal and crossed the plate on an infield hit by Mike Shannon. [The Sporting News]
