Rick Monday smashed a homer, two doubles and a single to lead the Athletics' 19-hit attack in a 7-3 victory over the Twins. Tommy Davis, Don Mincher and Tony LaRussa contributed three hits apiece. The A's wasted most opportunities and did not clinch the victory until scoring four runs in the eighth inning on six straight hits -- a double by LaRussa, safe bunt by Mudcat Grant, single by Bert Campaneris, double by Monday and singles by Davis and Mincher.

Harmon Killebrew clouted a homer for the Twins, whose loss cut their West division lead to 6½ games over the idle Angels and seven over the Athletics. [The Sporting News]
