The Pirates, who battled to win the first game, 2-1, erupted for eight runs in the fifth inning of the second game and breezed to a 10-1 victory to sweep a twi-night doubleheader with the Padres. Roberto Clemente homered in the seventh inning of the curtain raiser to snap a scoreless duel and the Pirates then added what proved to be the deciding run when Jerry May tripled, Bob Robertson walked and Al Oliver grounded into a double play. The Padres' run counted in the eighth on a double by Ed Spiezio and two infield outs.
