. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Dodgers extended their winning streak to six games with a 9-7 victory in the opener of doubleheader, but their string was broken by the Cubs in the nightcap, 13-2. In the lidlifter, Jim Hickman and Johnny Callison homered for the Cubs, who erupted for six runs in the third inning to take a 7-3 lead. Willie Crawford started the Dodgers' comeback with a two-run homer in the sixth. An error and consecutive singles by Bill Russell, Willie Davis and Wes Parker tied the score in the seventh and Tom Haller then hit a sacrifice fly to send the Dodgers in front. A double by Maury Wills and another two-bagger by Parker for his fourth hit of the game added the clinching tally in the ninth.

Billy Williams collected four hits for the the Cubs in the nightcap, including a homer in the first. The Cubs again used the third as their inning for a big outburst, scoring seven runs. Joe Pepitone batted in two with a single and Randy Hundley homered a with man on base. The Cubs also had later round-trippers by Ron Santo and Paul Popovich. Andy Kosco hit one for the Dodgers.
