A passed ball by Jerry Grote on a third strike cross-up by Tom Seaver and wild throw by the catcher after retrieving the ball enabled the Braves to score two runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Mets, 3-2. Seaver, who was the loser, gave up the Braves' initial run in the second inning on singles by Orlando Cepeda, Rico Carty and Clete Boyer, but the Mets' ace singled in the sixth and scored on a two-out homer by Donn Clendenon.
