Lee May batted in all five of the Reds' runs, including the winning tally with a single in the 14th inning, to beat the Phillies, 5-4. Johnny Briggs homered for the Phillies in the first inning, but Bernie Carbo doubled and May hit for the circuit in the second. A grounder by May added an RBI in the sixth. The Phillies went ahead with three runs in the eighth, only to have May tie the score with a round-tripper in the ninth. Bobby Tolan beat out an infield hit in the 14th and moved to second on a grounder by Johnny Bench. Following an intentional pass to Carbo, May capped his night with the winning single.
