Jose Pagan batted in five runs with two homers and Bob Veale drove in three with a double while pitching the Pirates to a 9-3 victory over the Padres. Pagan's first homer in the fourth inning followed singles by Al Oliver and Willie Stargell. Bill Mazeroski added another round-tripper.

In the seventh, after a double by Stargell, single by Pagan and intentional walk to Gene Alley loaded the bases, Veale cleaned the sacks with his double. Pagan hit his second homer of the game after Stargell singled in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
