Going to extremes, the Giants used a homer by Willie McCovey and a safe bunt by Ken Henderson to rally in the ninth inning for a a 3-2 victory over the Cardinals. After the Redbirds took an early 2-0 lead, Bobby Bonds homered for the Giants in the seventh. McCovey led off the ninth with the tying wallop.
