A three-run homer by Norm Cash in the eighth inning carried the Tigers to a 5-3 victory over the Athletics and handed Mudcat Grant his first defeat of the season. The A's ace reliever gave up a single by Al Kaline and a pass to Jim Northrup before Cash connected for the circuit. Denny McLain and three Tiger relievers yielded only four hits.
