Jim Hannan pitched the second one-hitter to the credit of Senators' staff in five days and beat the Royals, 7-0, as the Nats posted their seventh straight victory in the longest winning streak in two years under Ted Williams as manager. With two out in the fifth inning, Paul Schaal hit safely to left field and when Frank Howard attempted a shoestring catch, the ball went past him for a triple. Only three other men reached base, one on an error by Howard and two on walks. The Senators sent Hannan on the way to victory with three runs in the first on a pass to Ed Stroud and back-to-back homers by Howard and Mike Epstein. Dick Bosman pitched the other one-hitter against the Twins August 13. [The Sporting News] |
