The Cardinals built up a 10-3 lead after three innings, enabling Bob Gibson to struggle to an 11-8 victory over the Dodgers. Gibson, who gave up 14 hits, was lifted in the ninth inning, failing to finish for the first time since June 7. The Cardinals also collected 14 hits, including three singles by Jose Cardenal, who batted in three runs. Willie Davis had two triples and a single as the Dodgers' leader. [The Sporting News]
