With two out in the eighth inning, Willie Mays singled and Willie McCovey homered to bring the Giants a 5-4 victory over the Pirates. The Giants began the scoring with two runs in the second on singles by Jim Ray Hart and Hal Lanier, an error by Roberto Clemente and double by Bobby Bonds. Hart singled and Lanier doubled for another run in the fourth, but the Pirates went ahead with a four-run outburst in the fifth.

Gene Alley and Gene Clines singled and Matty Alou was safe on an error by Hart to load the bases. Dave Cash singled for one run and another scored when Clemente grounded into a double play. Willie Stargell then sent the Pirates ahead with a two-run homer. [The Sporting News]
