Dave Campbell, who drove in two earlier runs with a homer and single, came through with a bases-loaded hit in the ninth to give the Padres a 4-3 victory over the Pirates. Campbell's homer in the first ended a string of 23 scoreless innings by the Pirates' staff. Ollie Brown tied the score at 3-3 with a circuit clout in the eighth. Ed Spiezio singled in the ninth and was forced by Chris Cannizzaro. An infield hit by Ramon Webster and pass to Jose Arcia loaded the bases for Campbell's winning single. [The Sporting News]
