Jim Palmer turned in his 16th complete game of the season for the Orioles and posted his 18th victory by defeating the Athletics, 5-1. Don Buford started Palmer on the way to victory with a two-run homer in the third inning. Felipe Alou accounted for the A's run with a round-tripper in the fourth. [The Sporting News]
