. . . where the 1970s live forever!

After a two-out double by Ken Henderson in the ninth inning, the Cardinals walked Dick Dietz intentionally, but Jim Ray Hart spoiled that strategy by rapping a single to give the Giants an 8-7 victory. Willie Mays homered in the first inning for the 1,900th run of his career. Dietz connected for the circuit in the sixth.

The Giants took a 7-6 lead in the seventh when Bobby Bonds tripled, Willie Mays singled and Willie McCovey homered. Lou Brock tied the score with a round-tripper in the eighth. Joe Torre also had a homer for the Cardinals. [The Sporting News]
