With the help of catcher George Mitterwald, who broke a tie with a homer, Jim Perry gained his 19th victory as the Twins defeated the Red Sox, 5-2. A homer by Rico Petrocelli in the second helped the Red Sox tie the score at 2-2, but Jim Holt singled in the Twins' fourth and Mitterwald snapped the deadlock with his round-tripper.
