Milt Pappas, who was obtained from the Braves June 25, gained his eighth victory in 12 decisions with the Cubs, bringing his overall season mark to 10-6, by defeating the Padres, 5-1. On the other hand, Earl Wilson, purchased from the Tigers July 16, suffered his fifth straight loss with the Padres. Glenn Beckert collected four hits and Billy Williams had three in the Cubs' attack. Nate Colbert homered for the Padres' run. [The Sporting News]
