Mike Cuellar joined teammate Dave McNally as a 20-game winner when the Orioles defeated the Athletics, 6-4. Frank Robinson homered after a pass to Terry Crowley in the first inning and Crowley and Robinson hit hack-to-back homers in the third. The A's, who got a round-tripper by Joe Rudi, cut their deficit to one run, but the Orioles posted the decisive pair in the fifth. Brooks Robinson singled and, on a grounder by Davey Johnson, both runners were safe on a fielder's choice. A scratch single by Cuellar and an error by Marcel Lachemann enabled Robinson to score.
