Bob Gibson gained his seventh straight victory and 19th of the season when the Cardinals scored three unearned runs to defeat the Giants, 4-1. A single by Willie Mays and triple by Willie McCovey supplied the Giants' run in the first inning. Four errors on two consecutive batters enabled the Cardinals to tie the score in the third. An error by Jim Ray Hart in the seventh on what should have been the third out led to two tainted tallies. The Cardinals' only earned run off Gaylord Perry scored in the ninth when Lou Brock and Ed Crosby singled and Joe Hague hit a sacrifice fly.
