Continuing his mastery of the Mets, Wade Blasingame pitched the Astros to a 2-1 victory in a duel with Tom Seaver, who was the loser although allowing only three hits. Blasingame, who gave up four hits, beat the Mets for the second time since being recalled from the minors August 1 and for the ninth straight time in his career. The complete game was his first of the season.

The Mets scored their run in the second inning on a triple by Donn Clendenon and single by Ron Swoboda. The Astros then bunched their hits off Seaver to score twice in the third on a safe bunt by Cesar Cedeno and Joe Foy's error on the play, a single by Jesus Alou and a double by Joe Morgan.
