Ray Culp drove in the deciding run with a single in the sixth inning and was the winner with the help of Gary Wagner when the Red Sox defeated the Tigers, 4-2. Tony Conigliaro batted in the first two runs for the Red Sox with a grounder and a homer. With the score tied, 2-2, Billy Conigliaro doubled in the sixth and Don Pavletich walked.
