An infield hit by Tony LaRussa with the bases loaded in the ninth inning capped a two-run rally as the Athletics defeated the White Sox, 6-5. In the top of the ninth, pinch-hitter Gail Hopkins delivered a two-run homer to put the White Sox ahead, 5-4. The A's quickly tied the score in their half when Rick Monday walked and Gene Tenace and Sal Bando singled. After a sacrifice by Don Mincher and intentional pass to Reggie Jackson, LaRussa beat out his dribbler into the hole past third baseman Rich Morales. [The Sporting News]
