Four homers, including a grand slam by Jim Price, enabled the Tigers to outslug the Red Sox, 10-9. The Red Sox had a grand slam by Tony Conigliaro and a homer with the bases empty by Mike Andrews in building up an 8-1 lead. The Tigers, whose initial run came on a swat by Jim Northrup, began closing the gap when Price hit his jackpot wallop off Sonny Siebert in the fourth inning. Norm Cash homered with a mate aboard in the fifth when the Tigers went ahead, 9-8. Gates Brown then supplied what proved to be the winning run with a circuit clout in the seventh.
