The Padres, who had lost 13 straight games in the Astrodome and 14 out of 15 since entering the league, snapped the park's jinx by defeating the Astros, 2-1, in 10 innings. Al Ferrara homered for the Padres in the sixth, but the Astros forced the game into overtime with a run in the ninth on a single by Joe Morgan and a double by Jim Wynn.

Chris Cannizzaro doubled for the Padres in the 10th and gave way on the paths to Ron Slocum. Pat Dobson then helped himself to victory with a safe bunt, moving Slocum to third from where he scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Steve Huntz. [The Sporting News]
