Jim Palmer gained his 19th victory when the Orioles piled up six runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Yankees, 8-4. A double by Elrod Hendricks, infield hit by Mark Belanger and error by Horace Clarke on a grounder by Palmer netted the first tally. After a safe bunt by Don Buford, Paul Blair hit a sacrifice fly. An intentional pass to Boog Powell reloaded the sacks. Frank Robinson and Brooks Robinson walked, each forcing in a run.
