| The Cardinals salvaged the finale of the four-game series with the Mets by beating Gary Gentry, 5-3, for their first victory over the sophomore rlghthander in six decisions going back to last season. Gentry gave up three runs, including Joe Hague's third-inning homer. After Gentry left the game for a pinch-hitter, Rich Folkers gave up the Cardinals' remaining two tallies and these proved decisive when Al Weis hit his first homer since the 1969 World Series, connecting with a man on base in the ninth inning.
