The Tigers rallied for four runs in the ninth inning, including a tie-breaking double by Elliott Maddox, to defeat the Senators, 6-3. Frank Howard batted in two runs with a double in the seventh and added an RBI with a single in the eighth to put the Senators ahead, 3-2. In the Tigers' ninth, after the tying run scored on an error by Aurelio Rodriguez, Maddox hit his double to plate Jim Northrup and Don Wert. Maddox then counted himself on a single by Ike Brown.
