Brant Alyea smashed a three-run homer in the first inning to start the Twins off to a 4-0 victory over the Angels behind the combined four-hit hurling of Bert Blyleven and Ron Perranoski. After the Twins' first two batters struck out, Harmon Killebrew walked, Tony Oliva singled and Alyea belted his homer off Rudy May. Perranoski replaced Blyleven with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth and quelled the Angels' threat.
