. . . where the 1970s live forever!
A malfunction of the automatic tarpaulin during a shower in the seventh inning forced the suspension of the Pirates' game with the Phillies. The Pirates were leading, 4-1, when Don Money walked to lead off the seventh for the Phillies. When rain started to fall, umpires ordered the field covered, but the tarp, which operates electrically, stuck after rising about one foot out of the box alongside the third base line. The game was to be completed prior to the regular-scheduled meeting of the clubs on the following night.

The Pirates had homers by Richie Hebner, Bob Robertson and Willie Stargell in building up their lead. Robertson, who went into the game when Roberto Clemente sprained a back muscle in the first inning, also doubled and scored on a single by Manny Sanguillen in the fourth. The Phillies' run off Steve Blass counted on a double by Tim McCarver and single by Rick Wise in the fifth. [The Sporting News]
