Pinch-hitting, Reggie Jackson smashed a grand-slam homer in the eighth inning to climax the Athletics' attack in 8-3 victory over the Royals. The A's held a 3-1 lead after five frames, but Ed Kirkpatrick homered for the Royals in the sixth and Rich Severson drove in a run with a single to tie the score in the seventh.

Don Mincher doubled for the A's in the eighth and counted the tie-breaking tally on a single by Felipe Alou. After another single by Sal Bando and a pass to Dick Green, Jackson batted for Paul Lindblad and unloaded his homer off Tom Burgmeier. [The Sporting News]
