Getting tight pitching in both games, the Royals beat the Brewers in a twi-night doubleheader, 2-0 and 10-2. A single by Paul Schaal in the fourth inning drove in the Royals' runs in the opener. Bill Butler, making his first start since returning from Omaha (American Association), limited the Brewers to three hits before being removed after issuing two passes with one out in the ninth. Ted Abernathy struck out Floyd Wicker, gave up a bases-loading single by Bob Burda and got Tito Francona on a fly to save the game.

In the nightcap, Dick Drago pitched a five-hitter for the Royals, with one of the Brewers' runs coming on a homer by Burda. The Royals enjoyed a pair of five-run outbursts. In the sixth inning, after Rich Severson drove in two runs with a single, Lou Piniella came up with the sacks filled and cleared them with a double.
