Sparked by Ernie Banks, who broke a 2-2 tie with a three-run homer in the fourth inning, the Cubs defeated the Expos, 9-3. Jim Hickman walked and Ron Santo singled before Banks, after failing in two bunt attempts, swung away and smashed his homer.
