A four-run outburst in each game helped the Twins sweep a twi-night doubleheader with the Athletics, 6-1 and 7-2. In the opener, Cesar Tovar led off with a single in the third inning and, after a sacrifice, scored the Twins' first run on a double by Tony Oliva. Harmon Killebrew walked and was forced by Rich Reese. Brant Alyea singled to plate Oliva. George Mitterwald walked to load the bases and Charlie Manuel, batting for Frank Quilici, singled to drive in two runs.

Oliva homered in the first inning of the nightcap and Jim Kaat batted in a run with a single in the second before the Twins clinched their sweep with four runs in the fifth on three walks, a wild pitch and singles by Alyea, Paul Ratliff and Qullici. [The Sporting News]
