The Mets remained in a tie with the Pirates for first place in the East division when Tommie Agee singled in the 14th inning and Cleon Jones tripled to beat the Phillies, 3-2. Bud Harrelson stole home for the Mets' first run after drawing a walk in the third inning and reaching third base with two out. The Mets went on to add another run in the same stanza when Wayne Garrett was hit by a pitch and Jones and Art Shamsky singled.
