Pat Dobson pitched a two-hitter and Nate Colbert broke a 2-2 tie with a homer in the seventh inning to bring the Padres a 3-2 victory over the Reds. The Padres counted their initial pair on doubles by Dave Campbell and Ollie Brown and a single by Al Ferrara in the fourth. Dobson gave up an unimportant triple by Tony Perez in the second.

The other hit was a double by Pete Rose in the sixth when the Reds scored their two runs. Bobby Tolan was hit by a pitch, stole second and counted on Rose's two-bagger. After advancing on a wild pitch, Rose scored on a sacrifice fly by Johnny Bench. [The Sporting News]
