The relief pitching of Mike Davison and Don McMahon, after Juan Marichal was forced to leave the game, enabled the Giants to defeat the Dodgers, 4-3. Marichal suffered a muscle spasm in his stomach and left with two men on base and none out in the seventh inning. Davison retired the side and McMahon pitched the final two frames.

The Giants scored a run in the first on singles by Tito Fuentes and Ken Henderson around an error by Willie Crawford. Don Sutton beat himself with wildness in the fourth when the Giants added their other runs on only two hits with the aid of three walks and three wild pitches. [The Sporting News]
