Mickey Stanley beat out a bunt with the bases loaded and two out in the eighth inning, breaking a 4-4 tie and sending the Tigers to a 6-4 victory over the Senators. Jim Hannan threw wildly on Stanley's tap, allowing another run to score. Tom Timmerman, the winner in relief, tied a Tigers' club record by appearing in his 55th game. [The Sporting News]
