Overcoming a 5-0 deficit, the White Sox exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning and defeated the Twins, 8-7. Jim Perry, the Twins' 22-game winner, was kayoed as the White Sox started their outburst with a single by Gail Hopkins, double by Ed Herrmann and singles by Ken Berry, Bobby Knoop and Lee Maye for first three runs.

Stan Williams, who had a 9-0 record in relief for the Twins, took over and drew his first loss of the season when the White Sox continued their attack, adding four more runs. Bill Melton batted in a pair with a single. However, the White Sox needed a homer by Syd O'Brien in the sixth to produce what proved to be their winning marker. [The Sporting News]
