A pinch-double by Larry Stahl with two out in the eighth inning drove in two runs as the Padres overtook the Reds, 5-4, to complete a sweep of the three-game series. The Reds stepped off with three runs in the first, but Wayne Simpson, making his first start since August 14, was kayoed in the third when the Padres rallied to tie the score.

Pete Rose sent the Reds ahead again with a homer in the eighth, but the Padres came back in their half when Dave Robinson singled and Ramon Webster walked before Stahl rapped his deciding double. [The Sporting News]
