With a triple by Jim Fregosi as the key blow, the Angels scored two runs in the first inning and edged the Brewers. 2-1, to snap a nine-game losing streak. Sandy Alomar led off with a single, stole second and cantered home on Fregosi's three-bagger. Fregosi then scored on a grounder by Alex Johnson.

Tom Murphy gained his first victory since August 17, but was lifted in the eighth inning. Mel Queen, pitching in the ninth, gave up the Brewers' run on a walk and singles by Tito Francona and Tommy Harper. [The Sporting News]
