The Orioles piled up five runs in the third inning and Dave McNally took it from there to post his 23rd victory, beating the Senators, 6-2. Singles by Davey Johnson and Andy Etchebarren, a sacrifice by McNally and sacrifice fly by Don Buford accounted for the Orioles' initial tally. When Ed Brinkman threw wildly on a grounder by Mark Belanger, Etchebarren scored. Boog Powell doubled, knocking in two more runs, and then crossed the plate himself on singles by Merv Rettenmund and Brooks Robinson. Powell added a homer in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
