Taking advantage of errors, the Yankees swept a twi-night doubleheader from the Red Sox, 8-6 and 3-2, with four runs in the first game and one in the second game being unearned. The Red Sox committed five errors in the lidlifter, including two wild throws by rookie catcher Bob Montgomery.

In the nightcap, the Red Sox held a 2-0 lead until the ninth inning when Jim Lyttle singled. Frank Baker hit to Mike Andrews, who threw wildly, Lyttle going to third and Baker reaching second. Pete Ward then struck out, but Curt Blefary batted for Steve Kline and smashed a homer to win the game for the Yankees. [The Sporting News]
