. . . where the 1970s live forever!
The Mets, who were in a virtual tie with the Pirates for first place in the East division, lost to the Expos, 5-4, in 10 innings, and fell one game off the pace into a tie with the Cubs for second place. The Expos started the scoring with two runs in the second on a homer by Bob Bailey, single by John Bateman and triple by Bobby Wine. After the Mets tied the score, Wine hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the seventh to send the Expos in front again.

However, Dave Marshall homered for the Mets in the ninth and Agee broke the tie with a circuit clout in the 10th. In the Expos' half, Wine singled, Ron Brand walked and, after a sacrifice, pinch-runner Boots Day counted on a wild pitch by Jerry Koosman. Gary Sutherland grounded out, but Rusty Staub walked and stole second. With a count of three balls on Ron Fairly, Ron Herbel replaced Koosman and finished walking Fairly intentionally. Herbel then made his first pitch to Bateman, who lashed it for the game-winning single. [The Sporting News]
