. . . where the 1970s live forever!
The Pirates used homers by Willie Stargell, Richie Hebner and Bill Mazeroski to defeat the Phillies, 8-3, and take a one-game lead in the East division race over the Mets and Cubs. Stargell hit his homer in the first inning after a pass to Freddie Patek and a safe bunt by Matty Alou.

After a single by Johnny Briggs with the bases loaded in the second gave the Phillies two runs, the Pirates pulled away when Hebner and Mazeroski hit successive homers in the fourth. The division leaders then iced the decision with three runs in the eighth on two walks, a single by Alou, a wild throw and a single by Al Oliver. [The Sporting News]
