Jim McGlothlin hit his first major league homer to help himself to victory as the Reds defeated the Braves, 7-4. The Reds, who scored two unearned runs, built up a 4-1 lead at the expense of Steve Barber, making his first major league start in two years.

McGlothlin hit his homer off reliever Rick Kester in the seventh and Lee May iced the decision by connecting for the circuit with a man on base in the eighth. Clay Carroll pitched the last two innings for the Reds. [The Sporting News]
