The Dodgers, who rallied to tie the score in the ninth inning, came from behind again in the 14th to beat the Astros, 7-6. With Willie Davis contributing a homer, the Dodgers held an early lead before the Astros forged ahead with three runs in the ninth. Doug Rader, who had four RBIs for the game, knocked in two runs with a single and scored the go-ahead tally on a double by Johnny Edwards. In the Dodgers' half, a double by Tom Haller, safe bunt by Bill Russell, and sacrifice fly by Jim Lefebvre sent the game into overtime.

The Astros broke the tie in the 14th with singles by Larry Howard and Hector Torres and a grounder by Joe Morgan. The Dodgers then came back with a triple by Billy Grabarkewitz, scoring Lefebvre, and a single by Manny Mota to give reliever Ray Lamb his sixth straight victory. [The Sporting News]
