Homers by Carl Yastrzemski and Rico Petrocelli carried the Red Sox to a 2-1 victory over the Indians and extended their winning streak to six games. Yastrzemski's smash in the first inning represented his 100th RBI of the season.

The Indians tied the score in the second. Chuck Hinton walked and was forced by John Lowenstein, who stole second, continued to third on catcher Bob Montgomery's wild throw and crossed the plate on a single by Eddie Leon. Petrocelli hit his homer in the Red Sox half, enabling Sonny Siebert to gain the decision with help from Bobby Bolin, who relieved in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
